As our studio grows and refines its practices, we remain steadfast in living out our values. Operating as a nimble studio, our team members take on diverse roles, fostering agility and forming habits that drive meaningful progress. This year, we’re proud to unveil our first-ever State of Sustainability Report—a pivotal step in our journey toward an equitable carbon-neutral future.

This report serves as a reflection and a roadmap, enabling us to hold ourselves accountable to the AIA 2030 Commitment. It captures key milestones, tracks project outcomes, and underscores our dedication to sustainable design practices.

In response to escalating climate challenges, we have shifted our focus from targeting net zero energy to achieving net zero operating and embodied carbon, net zero water, and zero red list material to enhance resiliency and address local climate stressors. We prioritize measurable outcomes in building performance and community impact. This includes early-phase carbon estimation, Whole Building Life Cycle Assessments, and close collaboration with engineers and manufacturers to implement low-carbon materials from the start.

The pandemic highlighted the importance of health and well-being, inspiring strategies such as improved indoor air quality, daylighting, biophilic design, and access to outdoor amenities to enhance cognitive function and public health outcomes. Building performance and community impact must be measurable and inform improvements in future projects. Post-occupancy evaluations are a cornerstone of our research-driven design process, allowing us to assess outcomes and continually refine our approach.

In 2023, we completed our first year of carbon accounting and offsets, underscoring our operational commitment to “walking the talk.” as we continue to make strides in fostering sustainable design culture and our contribution to the local community.
