Multistudio’s design for Garmin’s North American headquarters in Olathe, Kansas, reimagines their corporate campus as a dynamic environment for innovation and expansion. In response to the company’s rapid growth, the project involved renovating existing facilities and designing new buildings, including a manufacturing and warehouse facility, parking garage, and pedestrian plaza as part of a larger, ongoing multiphase campus expansion.

Designing for Collaboration and Flexibility

The renovated headquarters now houses a unique blend of office spaces and 7,000sq. ft. of dining alongside Garmin’s manufacturing and distribution operations, nearly doubling the campus's capabilities. The building’s simple form is articulated through a façade of precast concrete, corrugated metal panels, and glass, creating a visually striking structure that reflects both functionality and design sophistication. Inside, the design integrates exposed structures and concrete floors, thoughtfully paired with color, graphics, and modern fixtures to elevate the warehouse aesthetic in people-centric spaces.

Flexible office spaces, color-coded “canyons” that improve access to natural daylight and wayfinding, and upgraded wellness amenities are key features that enhance collaboration while fostering Garmin’s culture of well-being and innovation.

Strategic Growth and Future Planning

Understanding Garmin’s future expansion needs was critical to the design process. Multistudio worked closely with Garmin to create stacking diagrams outlining different growth strategies, offering both horizontal and vertical solutions. This proactive approach ensures that the headquarters can adapt to future business growth while maintaining flexibility for evolving company needs.

Brand Experience as a Unifying Element

One of the standout features of the project is the seamless integration of comprehensive, intuitive signage and wayfinding across both new and renovated buildings. The signage acts as a unifying factor across the corporate campus, providing flexible messaging that evolves as the campus continues to grow. This thoughtful integration reinforces Garmin’s brand experience throughout the space, guiding employees and visitors through the ever-expanding campus.
