At the heart of this transformation is a carefully planned spine that organizes movement and interaction across the campus. Recognizing the value students place on outdoor connections, this design intertwines interior and exterior circulation to form two key elements:
1. Innovation Way – A dynamic circulation route that unifies previously disconnected parts of the campus. Lined with educational spaces, it fosters collaboration and supports real-world learning.
2. The Greenway – A continuous outdoor corridor that integrates learning spaces with nature, providing secure circulation while encouraging outdoor education and social interaction.
A series of Innovation Hubs are strategically placed along the spine, serving as collaborative spaces where students and teachers can engage in project-based learning. These flexible environments mirror professional workspaces, supporting interdisciplinary collaboration and partnerships with industry leaders. As part of the Kauffman Foundation’s Real World Learning initiative, these hubs empower students to earn Market Value Assets, enhancing their readiness for life beyond graduation.
To ensure equitable access to cutting-edge learning environments, our team facilitated an extensive stakeholder engagement process, shaping the district’s Comprehensive Facility Master Plan. This plan strategically aligned resources, adjusted school boundaries, and secured a$100M+ bond to fund the modernization of learning spaces across the district. Lee’s Summit High School stands as the centerpiece of this visionary investment.
A Catalyst for Change More than just a school, Lee’s Summit High School is a highly visible landmark within the city. Situated at the intersection of two primary highways and within walking distance of downtown, this campus redesign serves as a public statement on the future of education. Its prominent location ensures that these innovative learning environments will not only impact current students but also inspire change across the region’s educational landscape.
Through intentional design, forward-thinking programming, and a commitment to real-world learning, Lee’s Summit High School is setting a new standard for future-ready education.
